Los Angeles-based artist El Mac took his first trip to Boston to complete a mural at Northeastern University, as a signature piece of the university’s Public Art Initiative. The large-scale mural is based on a photo El Mac took of his wife. It is meant to celebrate the intersection of arts and sciences at Northeastern, as part of the university’s ongoing effort to enhance the campus.
The image features a woman with long braids, wearing a toga. A bolt of lightning extends from the fingers on right hand, while she grasps a paintbrush in her left hand. El Mac described her as a “Greek Muse”.
The mural at Northeastern University is particularly significant to El Mac because his father attended Northeastern and his mother grew up in Boston. This was the LA-based artist first visit to the city.
‘PARAL•LEL’, the first solo exhibition in Los Angeles by Spanish muralist and artist, ARYZ, opened April 25th 2015 with hundreds of visitors who came see his new body of work. With two complimentary parallel rooms that span over 2000 square feet, the show reflects on the definition of “PARAL•LEL” as a mathematical notion in differential geometry where two parallel geodesic lines never meet in the same plane, but intersect at infinity.
In addition to the sold out exhibition, ARYZ will be releasing a special giclée print Friday, May 8th at 12PM (PST) at parallel-losangeles.com. Titled, ‘Interludio’ the print is of one of the largest paintings currently exhibited at the show.
PARAL•LEL will remain open until May 31st by appointment only and appointments to see the exhibition can be made at the event website at parallel-losangeles.com.

Brazilian illustrators Bicicleta Sem Freio finished a new mural at Hotel Des Arts in San Francisco. Curated by Upper Playground, the mural is set in the new ground floor lobby of the hotel and features BSF’s signature bold colors and beautiful female figures. Bringing together two adjacent walls, the bright psychedelic painting is a ‘can’t-miss’ addition to the boutique hotel that features contemporary works of emerging artists from around the world.
Bicicleta Sem Freio is in San Francisco for their first US exhibition “This Is Not A Poster”, presented by Fifty24SF Gallery in association with Upper Playground and JustKids. Opening reception is Friday, May 1st 7pm at Fifty24SF Gallery in Lower Haight.
