New mural by El Mac was just completed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  The work celebrates a local artisan who lives in the building where the mural was painted.  In El Mac’s signature style, the artist portrayed a woman who hand makes traditional Cambodian Tapestries. El Mac in his ongoing pursuit of giving people without voices a voice, celebrates with this mural her dedication to her community and preservation of the Cambodian culture.  Public Art of this nature is a rarity in the capital city and the wall was made possible by the Igloo Hong Project underwritten by the David Young Choe Foundation.

Curiot returns to San Francisco for his second show at FFDG opening tomorrow evening, March 27th from 6-9PM.  For the occasion of the show, he begins a wall today at Hotel Des Arts in the Financial District organized by Fifty24SF Gallery and Upper Playground. Renown Japanese artist and muralist, Usugrow, completes a new wall in the heart of the Medina at Rahba Kedima spice square of Marrakech, Morocco. Curated by Valerie Liais du Rocher of Studio IWA with support from Upper Playground, the mural covers the facade of the well known Cafe Des Epices featuring Usugrow’s signature hand style.  Combining his knowledge of Kanji (Japanese), Arabic and English Calligraphy, Usugrow once again reinvents his free hand. “I always thought that the most difficult thing of painting in big formats was too keep the line gesture and the proportions like in the sketches. My sketches have a lot of mistakes and random lines, and somehow I wanted to reproduce that on a wall. The more effects and colors you use on your work, the more you can hide the mistakes and catch the viewer’s attention… when you use the line and not much more, the mistakes can be easily seen…” -Aryz
