The San Francisco Heritage Preservation Society in conjunction with the California Historical Society presents the first edition of Barbary Coasters. Culled from a fine assortment of nineteenth century liquor and medicinal advertisements, the four-coaster set pays tribute to the debaucherous era of San Francisco’s Barbary Coast. During California’s Gold Rush, this notorious nine-block section of town was known for rowdy inebriates, shanghaiing criminals, snake oil salesmen, and scandalous ladies of the night.
The Barbary Coasters have been created in honor of CAHS’s annual Historic Libations Event, which celebrates turn of the century cocktail making in San Francisco. Each set is handmade in America and includes four antique-tile cork-backed coasters. Only 25 sets made.
