Los Angeles based artist, Justin Bower, paints striking portraits with destabilizing colors and fragmentation of facial structures that surprise the viewer. The neon glow and contradicting color combinations and textures refer to a digital aesthetic that collide into a computer like logic all gone wrong. The large-scale paintings are created entirely by hand, without any computer assistance. Bower uses expressive brushstrokes on the giant faces that often include multiple eyes, spliced noses, and melting mouths, and florescent sparks that reflect on the destabilizing and traumatic impact of technology on the human psyche and body.
